A song I wrote about my frustration and anger with what happened in New Orleans after the hurricane ~ based on several different stories I heard on the news in the days and weeks that followed.

Dear God, can you hear me… Can you hear me cry?
The soil is soaked in blood, and it’s beginning to dry
I can’t find a drink of water, anywhere I go
Tell me God, how to rise above, when I’m down so low?
My mother she drowned, just down that road
They said she’d be safe in the convalescent home
So I grabbed my kids, and we ran for the shelter
Only to be attacked by a starve-faced aggressor
Dear God, can you hear me… Can you hear me cry?!
My son’s barely breathing, please don’t let him die
I tried calling for help, but it’s not going through
We’ve run out of food, and I don’t know what to do
The sun has come out, they’ve got us in line
My best friend collapsed on the way to the stop sign
And I have no idea now, who I can trust
Is it the color of my skin, that kept away that bus!?
Dear God… Can you hear me?!
Dear God… Can you hear me?!
Dear God… Can you hear me?!
